A CLOSER LOOK
A fixed defect belongs to a location on your sensor. RawHeal saves that location in a camera profile, so it can be used across your supported graphics.
Conceptual diagram. Not actual sensor data or a real repair result.
Bright-field and dark calibration frames help reveal recurring defects. Review the candidates and save a profile for this physical camera body.
Repair estimates defective samples from unaffected neighbors. For Bayer sensors, it uses samples of the same color. Monochrome DNG is supported too.
Export a separate DNG with camera metadata preserved. Inspect it in your RAW editor, rebuilding the preview if needed. Estimates cannot restore lost measurements.

As CCD—and older CMOS—sensors age, fixed defects inevitably develop: hot or dead pixels, dead or bright columns, partial column trails, and small fixed spots.
About 30 blank frames reveal the fixed defects of your specific camera body. Each physical body needs its own profile, even if you own two of the same model.
RawHeal works at the RAW pixel level, before demosaicing. It estimates defective samples from same-colour neighbouring photosites, with Bayer-aware repair and monochrome support.
Write a repaired DNG copy with metadata preserved. Originals are never modified. Everything runs offline on your Mac.
Combine bright, evenly lit, defocused frames with lens-cap dark frames. Shoot dark frames at the ISO and shutter speeds you usually use.
Confirm the fixed defects and save a reusable map for that physical body. Calibration frames from another camera cannot substitute for your own.
Apply the profile to supported DNGs. Inspect the repaired copies in your RAW editor before processing more.
These formats have been tested with public sample DNG files from raw.pixls.us. Tests do not guarantee every file. Profiles still require calibration frames from your own camera body.
Other uncompressed Bayer or monochrome DNGs may work — try a small batch.
Not yet: lossless-compressed DNG (e.g. M240 compressed mode, Adobe DNG Converter default output), proprietary RAW files (NEF, CR2, ORF, RAF…), X-Trans / SuperCCD, and linear (demosaiced) DNG.

Licensing ↗Small, fixed sensor defects. Reconstructed samples are estimates, not recovered measurements. RawHeal does not repair cover-glass corrosion, which is an area defect, or banding that changes with exposure.
Embedded previews are not regenerated. Rebuild the Standard or 1:1 preview in Lightroom, or reopen the repaired copy in your RAW editor, to inspect the repaired RAW data.
No. Calibration and repair run offline on your Mac. No account, analytics, or photo uploads.
