Help for your DNG workflow

Support & calibration.

Email rawhealsupport@gmail.com with your RawHeal version, macOS version, camera model, DNG compression setting, and exact error message. Please do not send original graphics unless requested.

About 30 frames. One physical body.

A profile maps the fixed defects of one physical camera body. Do not mix bodies, even of the same model. Use complete original DNG files without cropping, rotating, or converting them before analysis.

  1. About 18 bright flat frames: graphic an evenly lit white wall or overcast sky at base ISO and f/5.6–f/8. Defocus until no texture remains. Shoot three groups of about six frames, varying shutter speed for three exposure levels. Keep the histogram right of centre without clipping in each group. Use consistent illumination and avoid the sun.
  2. About 12 dark frames: fit the lens cap securely. Use the ISOs and shutter speeds you usually shoot at, dividing the frames across those settings. For example, take four frames at each of three common ISO/shutter combinations. Focus does not matter.
  3. Place all ~30 calibration DNGs in one folder for this body. Create a separate profile for every other body.

Camera DNG settings

From calibration to repaired copies

  1. Open Create Camera Profile and select the calibration folder.
  2. Run detection and inspect the candidates at magnification. Confirm defects that repeat at the same sensor coordinates across frames.
  3. Save the profile with a name that identifies the physical body.
  4. Open Batch Repair DNG, select that profile and a source folder. Choose an output folder, or use the default RawHeal Results folder inside the source folder.
  5. Repair three to five graphics first. Inspect the output at 100%, including lifted shadows, in your RAW editor before processing an archive.

Compatibility in RawHeal 1.1

These formats have been tested with public sample DNG files from raw.pixls.us. Tests do not guarantee every file. Profiles still require calibration frames from your own camera body.

Other uncompressed Bayer or monochrome DNGs may work — try a small batch.

Not yet: lossless-compressed DNG (e.g. M240 compressed mode, Adobe DNG Converter default output), proprietary RAW files (NEF, CR2, ORF, RAF…), X-Trans / SuperCCD, and linear (demosaiced) DNG.

An unsupported file or repair error

A .dng extension alone does not guarantee compatibility. Check the original camera setting against the list above. Adobe DNG Converter default output is lossless-compressed and is not yet supported. For an unsupported layout, stop and email the camera model, compression setting and error message to rawhealsupport@gmail.com. Using another CCD camera? Email us your camera model.

A defect still appears

Check that you opened the repaired copy and selected the profile for that exact body. Embedded previews are not regenerated: rebuild the Standard or 1:1 preview in Lightroom, or reopen the output in your RAW editor. If the RAW data still shows a fixed defect, review its position in the profile and your calibration frames.

Missing output or skipped files

Click Open Output Folder after processing. If no output location was selected, look for RawHeal Results inside the source folder. Check the CSV processing log for errors or skipped files. Existing same-name output files are skipped.

What a repair can—and cannot—do

RawHeal estimates defective RAW samples using same-colour neighbouring photosites before demosaicing. It is Bayer-aware and supports monochrome. It patches small fixed defects, including hot/dead pixels, dead or bright columns, partial column trails and small fixed spots. Reconstructed samples are estimates; lost sensor measurements cannot be recovered.

RawHeal does not repair cover-glass corrosion, an area defect, or banding that changes with exposure. It writes repaired DNG copies with metadata preserved and never modifies originals. Calibration and repair run entirely offline on your Mac.

System requirements

macOS 12 or later, on Intel or Apple Silicon. Start with one or two simultaneous files on an Intel Mac; higher concurrency uses more memory.

Licensing

A version 1.x license, including updates within 1.x. Up to two fixed registered Macs per order, for the lifetime of the license. No subscription. No device transfers in this edition; future major upgrades are not included.

The direct edition includes 49 trial exports in total, not per month. Detection, calibration and previews remain available after the export allowance is used. Failed or skipped files do not normally use an export. Re-exporting a graphic counts again. Resetting preferences does not reset the allowance.

Copy the RHDEV1 device code from Activate RawHeal… and email it with your order reference to rawhealsupport@gmail.com. Support verifies the payment, registers up to two fixed Macs per order and manually emails a matching RH2 code for each. Use the same order reference for the second Mac. Codes are not interchangeable. No device unbinding or transfers are available. A website code does not unlock the App Store edition. After activation, the home trial card disappears and saved status is in Settings → License. Reopening the app does not repeat the celebration.

One-time purchase. Personal email delivery. RawHeal Direct 1.1 build 8 is signed and notarized by Apple, with Intel and Apple silicon support. Download and try your own DNG files before purchasing. The checkout below charges real money. After payment, email your order reference and device code to support; activation codes are issued manually, not instantly or automatically.
